At Homegrown In Folsom, our mission is to provide the freshest, most delicious produce to our customers. We believe that everyone should have access to healthy, nutritious food, and we are committed to making that a reality. We focus on creating the best soil possible and leave the rest to nature.
Hi, I am Jason Miller. I was a network engineer for 35 years where I always enjoyed solving problems and learning new things. I also knew I wanted to retire early but would need something to keep my mind busy as well as out of my wife’s hair. Enter GARDENING.
I had vegetable gardens on and off over the last 30 years but kid's activities and travel for work sometimes made it difficult to keep up. I figured if I was going to crank up my garden in retirement, I better make sure I still enjoyed it, so got a bit more serious when I turned 50. Our Mandeville, LA back yard didn’t have a lot of space and it wasn’t long before I started to look for a small lot close by to expand. That “small lot” ended up being 6 acres in Folsom, LA where we would later move.
COVID halted travel for work and allowed me to spend more time in my garden. My sources for garden knowledge also changed from things like LSU Ag Center and conventional gardening experts to books and podcast on organic farming. My limited use of synthetic fertilizers and controlling pest with sprays stopped.
I decided I would start a small farm business and purchased part of the lot next to me. Homegrown In Folsom has been built from the “ground up” as I focused on making the best soil possible adding organic matter and cover crops. In late 2023, I hung up my network engineer hat to focus entirely on setting up the farm.
My goal is to share my love of gardening and provide the freshest, best tasting vegetables to my customers!
